Tutorial By Marc Hoffman

Problem: When dialing up to the internet, Windows 95 or 98 will get to the "Verifying Username and Password" phase. It will then immediately disconnect.

Solution: This problem is typically caused by a missing TCP/IP protocol in the Network control panel. In order to repair this problem, please have the Windows 95 or Windows 98 CD handy.

  1. Place the Windows 95 or Windows 98 CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click on the "Start" Menu, point to "Settings", and click on "Control Panel".
  3. Double click on "Network"
  4. Look carefully through the listing of components in the window. If either "TCP/IP" or "TCP/IP-->Dial-Up Adapter" is not present, continue on. [NOTE: If "TCP/IP" or "TCP/IP-->Dial-Up Adapter" is present in the list, please give our tech support number a call at 865-4736 and we will be glad to help you.]
  5. Click on "Add"
  6. Click once on "Protocol" and then click on "Add".
  7. In the left pane, click once on "MicroSoft"
  8. In the right pane, click once on  "TCP/IP" and then click "OK".
  9. Click "OK" again.
  10. The computer will now begin copying files to the hard drive.
  11. When prompted to restart the computer, click "Yes" or "OK".
  12. Remove the CD from the drive.
  13. Do these steps, and you're done.
