Problem: When trying to download email, the download process takes forever. Also, whenever the messages come through and are deleted, the same messages keep downloading the next time mail is checked. Solutions: This problem has three possible causes. 1. There is a huge email plugging up your account (we have seen messages as large as 30mb in clients' accounts). This can be downloaded, but on a standard dial-up modem connection, it would literally take hours. Most email programs work by first downloading all of your mail first, and then deleting them off our computers. If the download doesn't finish completely, then none of the email on Kearney.Net's computer is deleted. Hence, the next time you try to download your email, the same messages will come through again and again until you finally download the entire store of messages. 2. The second cause is a possible corrupted email in your account. This occurs when messages that have been forwarded 20 or 30 times arrive in your email. Some email programs (most notably Microsoft Outlook 97 or 98 for Windows, not to be confused with Outlook Express, which is completely different) can become confused when trying to download these messages. Systems that appear to be immune to this problem are Macintosh computers running Netscape software and Windows NT systems. 3. The third cause is that your email program is set to download email from Kearney.Net's computer, and keep a copy of the messages on our servers. Solution 1 - If there is a huge email plugging up your email account or a corrupted email message in your account, please call us at 865-4736 and we will assist you in removing the messages that are plugging your account. If you are using Outlook 97 or 98 for Windows (referred to as just Microsoft Outlook), try downloading this program that can sometimes help to download corrupted emails. Solution 2 - If your email program is set to keep copies of your email on the server, please call us at 865-4736 and we will help you correct this problem. |
