Macintosh Edition Everyone who subscribes to our service has a place on our server for a 2mb webpage. You can access yours by using a standard FTP program. 1. To upload information to a website on KearneyNET's server, you will first need a program called an FTP program. We recommend Fetch, which is useful and is also free. You will need to download Fetch if you don't already have it on your computer. To get Fetch, click on the link below: 2. Once you have this downloaded and on your computer, double-click the Fetch Icon. You should see something similar to the following picture: ![]() 3. For now, click on the "Cancel" button. 4. Next, go to the "Customize" menu at the top of the screen. Click on it, and then select the "New Shortcut" item as shown here:
5. Once you have completed Step 4 above, you should see something similar to this:
The blanks to fill in can be summed up as follows: Name - This is a friendly name that you can give your webpage connection. It can be anything that you wish. In the case of the example above, I named it "My Webpage". Type - Leave this part at "Unknown" as it is not needed Host - You need to fill this in with www.kearney.net as this is the address to our server. User ID - This is the user name that you have to dial up to Kearney.net. For example, my user name is "mhoffman". Password - This is the password that you use to dial up Kearney.net. You will not be able to see your password, and it will show up as little dots. Directory - This is the place on our server where your webpage will be stored. Make sure that you have public_html typed in this blank, and that it is in all lower case with no spaces. 6. Now, click on "OK". 7. Now, go up to the "File" menu and select "Open Shortcut". The name that you gave your webpage connection should show up here. The name given in the example above ("My Webpage") shows up in the shortcut listing below. Click on the name that you gave your website connection now.
8. Now, you should see something like this:
Click "OK", and the following requester will pop up:
9. This is the contents of your webpage. My page, as shown above, is quite full. If you are just setting up your page, you will not see many listings here. Now, you are ready to add files to your webpage. Simple take the files from your desktop (or where ever you have them stored), and drag them one at a time into the box on the left as shown above. Fetch will handle the rest! 10. To view your page, you will need to go to an address similar to the following format: http://www.kearney.net/~your_dialup_user_name_goes_here For example, in order to view my page, I would go to: http://www.kearney.net/~mhoffman Also, remember to put a TILDE (which looks like this ~ and is located on the upper left corner of you keyboard; you will need to shift in order to type it in) in front of your username. |
