How to Change the Outbound Mail Server in Windows Messaging/Microsoft Exchange and Some Versions of Microsoft Outlook

This tutorial applies to Windows 95 users who need to change over their outbound mail server, and are using Windows Messaging or Microsoft Exchange to read their email. Please read the following steps:

1. On your Windows 95 screen, double-click on your "Inbox" icon  .

2. Once the program launches, click on the "Tools" menu across the top, and then click on the "Services" item. You should see something similar to the screen shown in Figure 1 below.

3. In the listing of services, find the item named "Internet Mail". Click once on Internet Mail so that it is highlighted. Notice that in Figure 1, this step is circled in red.

4. Now, click on the "Properties" button. This step is also circled in red in Figure 1.

5. Now, you should see a window similar to the once shown in Figure 2 below. Toward the bottom of this new window, click on the "Advanced Options" button. This step is circled in red in Figure 2.

6. A new window will appear. If the box in this window is blank, or if it has "mail.kearney.net" or "mail.unk.net" typed in it, erase it. Now, using all lower case letters with NO spaces, type smtp.kearney.net in the box. This step is circled in red in Figure 2.

7. Click on "OK", and then click "OK" again. You will get a message that the changes you have made will not take effect until the next time you launch Windows Messaging or Microsoft Exchange. Click "OK" to this, and close up your email program by clicking in the "X" in the upper right corner. Do these steps, and you're done.
