This tutorial applies to Windows 95/98/NT users who need to change over their outbound mail server, and are using Microsoft Outlook Express 4.0 or 5.0. 1. Start Outlook Express by either double-clicking its icon, or by launching Internet Explorer and clicking on the "Mail/Read Mail" button within Internet Explorer. 2. Once Outlook Express is started, click on the menu across the top that is labeled "Tools". A menu should drop down. Now, click on the item labeled "Accounts". Once this is done, you should see a screen similar to the one shown in Figure 1 below. 3. Find the tab labeled "Mail", and click on it. This step is circled in red in Figure 1. You should now see three columns, each labeled "Account", "Type", and "Connection", respectively. Many reading this will only have one account available, as is shown in Figure 1. If, however, you have more than one email account, you will need to repeat the following procedure for each account. 4. Click once on the first account. It will most likely be called "mail.kearney.net" or "mail.unk.net", as is circled below in figure 1. If, however, the account is called "pop3.kearney.net", you do not need to do anything further. You are already set up on the new email system. Click "Close" and use your email as you normally would. If it reads anything else, please read on. 5. Now, click on the "Properties" button on the
right hand side. This is circled in red in Figure 1.
6. Now, you should see a window similar to the one shown below in Figure 2. You should see even more tabs across the top of this screen. Click on the tab labeled "Servers", as is circled in red in Figure 2. Now, find the box labeled "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)". If the words "mail.kearney.net" or "mail.unk.net" are typed in this box, delete them. Now, using all lower case letters with NO spaces, type smtp.kearney.net in the box. 7. Now, hit the "Apply" button in the bottom right corner of the window, and then click on the "OK" button. 8. Next, click on the "Close" button in the bottom
right corner of the Accounts window. Follow these steps, and then you're
done.
