How to Change the Outbound Mail Server In
Mac OS 8.5 and 8.6

This tutorial applies to Macintosh users who are using Mac OS 8.5, 8.51, or 8.6. To change the outbound mail server using the Macintosh Internet Control Panel, read the following steps:

1. To make sure that you are using Mac OS 8.5x or Mac OS 8.6, click on your Apple Menu in the upper left of the screen and select the first item on the list, which should read "About this Computer" or "About this Macintosh". If you are using Mac OS 8.5 or 8.6, you should see something similar to Figure 1; notice that the OS version is circled in red. If the text in the upper right hand corner says "Mac OS 8.5", "Mac OS 8.5.1", or "Mac OS 8.6", then proceed to Step 2.

2. Click on your Apple Menu in the upper left corner of the screen. Point to the "Control Panels" item, and a menu should pop out to the side. Scroll down until you find "Internet", and click on it. You should see something similar to window shown in Figure 2. Notice that there are several tabs across the window. Click on the tab that is labeled "E-Mail". Now, you should see several more options pertaining to user account ID, Incoming Mail Server, Password, and Outgoing Mail Server. The Outgoing Mail Server is the blank that needs to be changed if the text in that box reads "mail.kearney.net" or "mail.unk.net". If this is the case, delete the mail.kearney.net or mail.unk.net and type in its place, using all lower case letters and NO spaces, the following: smtp.kearney.net.

3. Now, click on the Close Box in the upper left corner of the window. You will be asked whether or not you wish to save the changes made; click the "Save" button. Do these steps, and you're done.
