How to Change the Outbound Mail Server In Internet Explorer and Outlook Express for the Macintosh

This tutorial applies to Macintosh users who are using Internet Explorer and Outlook Express to read their email. To change the outbound mail server in Outlook Express for Macintosh, read the following steps:

1. Launch Internet Explorer. This can be done by clicking directly on its Icon , or you can click on the "Browse the Internet" Icon  (Note: the "Browse the Internet" Icon is only available to those Mac users running Mac OS 8 and above). Once Internet Explorer is running, click on the "Read Mail" button across the top of the screen: . Outlook Express should start up. Once Outlook Express is running, click on the "Edit" menu, and select "Preferences". You should see something similar to the window shown in Figure 1.

2. On the left hand side of this window, you should see a tree of options. The first option should read "Accounts", and right under Accounts there should be an option that reads "E-mail". Click on "E-Mail". Notice that this area is circled in red in Figure 1.

3. The right side of the window should change to something similar to Figure 1. Find the box that is labeled "SMTP server". If the text in the box reads "mail.kearney.net" or "mail.unk.net", erase it. In its place, type smtp.kearney.net, making sure to use all lower case letters and NO spaces. Notice that this box is circled in red in Figure 1.

4. Click the "OK" button in the bottom right corner of the window. Do these steps, and you're done.
