Problem:
Periodically,
the Macintosh computer will crash or lock up. This happens randomly.
Solution:
The Macintosh is a rather
low maintenance computer, but it still does require routine maintenance
to keep things working properly. Probably the most important procedure
to do at least once a month is to rebuild the desktop file. This
is a simple process, and takes only a few minutes, and it will stop frequest
crashes and erratic behavior on the Mac. If you can hold down two keys
on the keyboard, then you can rebuild the desktop file on your Macintosh.
-
Turn on your Mac
-
As the computer boots, hold down the Command key (also known as the
Apple Key) and the Option key. Keep holding them down throughout
the bootup sequence. This may be a couple of minutes.
-
When the computer asks you if you want to rebuild the desktop, click "OK"
or "Yes", as shown in Figure 1. The computer may warn you that comments
in info windows will be lost. This is OK.
-
Do these steps, and you're done.
